The Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Botswana, Honourable Dr. Douglas Letsholathebe, visited the University of Botswana on a campus-wide tour of renewable energy projects at the University.

Prof Kevin N. Nwaigwe explaining the working principle of the trailer to the Minister, Honourable Dr Douglas Letsholathebe

A major highlight of his visit was an inspection tour of the SOLTRAIN solar trailer exhibited by the SOLTRAIN 4 project team, Clean Energy Research Centre of University of Botswana (CERC). The trailer houses both a thermosyphon and a pumped solar water heating system. Also exhibited was a hybrid solar water heating and cooling system designed and fabricated by research students from CERC.

The Minister and his entourage were guided on a tour of the SOLTRAIN trailer by Prof Kevin N. Nwaigwe, who explained the working principles of the trailer. The Minister was also led on the campus-wide tour by Vice Chancellor Prof. David Norris, which included the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Prof. Nelson Torto, the Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Edward Dintwa and other principal officers of the University of Botswana.

The Minister was impressed with the various renewable energy projects being undertaken by the University and encouraged the institution to seek more collaboration with the industry and community towards commercialisation and implementation of the solutions arising from its research.
